LNdP Mission 4

1. Lage/Situation
a) Feind/Enemy:
Verbliebene Restkräfte des 2. Reg/2. Republikanische Gardepanzerdivision konnten nach unserem erfolgreichen Angriff mit vereinzelten Restkräften
und wenig verbliebenem Gerät auf NAJAF - KUFA ausweichen. Restteile 2. Panzerdivision weichen weiter Richtung Nord aus.
In der Stadt ist daher nicht mit zusammenhängenden Einheiten zu rechnen, aber mit fanatischem Widerstand. Inwieweit die Zivilbevölkerung von den
ausgewichenen Eliteeinheiten instrumentalisiert oder benutzt wird, ist unklar. Weiterhin ist unklar, ob und in welcher Anzahl mit Widerstandskämpfern
zu rechnen ist.

Remaining hostile forces of the 2nd Reg./2nd Republican Guards Tank Div. could withdraw to NAJAF - KUFA with loose forces and small amount of equipment.
Other units of 2nd Tank Div. are withdrawing in northern direction.
Therefore it´s not likely to count on major organized units, but on fanatical resistance. It´s unknown if civilians are exploited or used by withdrawed
elite troops. Also it´s unknown if and with which strength Fedayeen operate in the town.

b) Eigene Lage/ Own Sitiuation:
Es ist an der Zeit einen weiteren großen Meilenstein auf dem Weg nach BAGDAD zu befreien - die Stadt NAJAF.
Der Angriff wird vorgetragen vom 2d Btn, das sich bisher sehr gut im Kampf ausgezeichnet hat. Eigene Verluste hielten sich in den ver-
gangenen 2 Tagen in Grenzen und konnten durch Abstellungen vom 3d Btn ausgeglichen werden. Nachdem die Nacht für Vorbereitungen
zum bevorstehenden Angriff und heranführen der Einheiten genutzt werden konnte, tritt das 2d Btn nun auf die Stadt NAJAF an.
Schwere A Coy wurde wieder abgestellt an 2d Tank Btn, D Coy wieder ins Btn eingegliedert. B Coy verstärkt mit einem LAV25 Zug vom Btn HQ, sowie
einem M1 Panzerhalbzug.
Um Verluste bei der Zivilbevölkerung möglichst gering zu halten, nur Unterstützung durch Marineflieger möglich.

It is time to liberate another major milestone on the way to BAGHDAD - the city of NAJAF.
The attack will be lead by 2d Btn, which showed impressive standing in the past encounters. in the last days own losses were proportinal slightly and could
be balanced with reinforcements from 3d Btn. The night could be used for additional preparations for the assault and advance of our units. Now 2d Btn will
attack the city.
Armoured support through A Coy was reassigned to 2d Tank Btn, D Coy is again with the 2d Btn. B Coy was reinforced with a tank section and a LAV plt from HQ.
In order to minimize civilian losses it´s only possible to support with Marine attack fighters.

- Nimmt Aufstellung an DL, stellt sich darauf ein um 0900Uhr zusammen mit den anderen Coy auf NAJAF anzutreten

- Tritt an auf NAJAF PARK (OBJ TREE) und säubert die Gegend von feindl. Widerstand

- Nimmt OBJ GRASS, sichert das Hospital und findet dort Kontaktperson Dr. Mushaif. Von ihm erwarten wir wichtige Hinweise über mögliche Massenvernichtungswaffen
in NAJAF

- Nimmt Aufstellung an DL, stellt sich darauf ein um 0900Uhr zusammen mit den anderen Coy auf NAJAF anzutreten

- Tritt an auf das Universitätsgelände von NAJAF und sichert dieses

D Coy

- Tritt an auf die Ortschaft KUFA, nimmt und sichert diese

- Bezieht Verteidigungspositionen ostwärts Highway 22 und sichert in Richtung N - NO

3. Durchführung/Execution:
- Meine Absicht ist es, mit C / B / D Coys parallel zueinander auf NAJAF anzutreten. Linker Nachbar, 2d Tank Btn sichert tief gegliedert linke Flanke.
E Coy vom 1st Btn derzeit Einsatzreserve.
C Coy tritt als äusserst westliches Teil auf die westlichen Bezirke NAJAFS an und sichert diese. B Coy tritt zwischen Bahnlinie und Universitäts-
gelände zentral auf die Stadt an. Rechter Nachbar der B Coy ist wieder eingegliederte D Coy, die rechten Flankenschutz übernimmt und auf die Ortschaft KUFA
sowie die nördlichen Bezirke NAJAFs antritt. Das Btn geht nach erfolgreicher Befreiung an den Aussenbezirken NAJAFS vorerst zur Verteidigung über, E Coy wirft
verbliebene Widerstandsnester im Rückraum und stellt Ordnung in der Stadt wieder her.

My intention is to attack NAJAF with C / B / D Coys parallel. Left neighbour 2d Tank Btn secures left flank in deep formation. Assigned E Coy from 1st Btn remains
as actual reserve.
C Coy attacks as left wing to the western districts of NAJAF and secures them. B Coy attacks between train tracks and University of NAJAF in main effort of the Btn.
Right wing will be reassigned D Coy, which will secure right flank and attack KUFA and northern districts. After liberation of NAJAF, Btn will change to defense
operation in the outskirts of NAJAF, E Coy as reserve will destroy remaining pockets of resistance in our back and regain control and order in the city.
