LNdP Mission 3

1. Situation
a) enemy forces:
Enemy attack of 1st SU Guards Tank Army north of FULDA could only be stopped by use of tact. nuclear weapons. 8th Guards Motorrifle Army is now attacking the southern Fulda-Gap. Sovjet intention is likely
to be the attack towards SCHLUECHTERN, in order to be capable to advance towards FRANKFURT. An enemy attack in size of probably at least one regiment (17th Guards Tank Reg.) is expected within the next
1-2 hours from direction N - NE.

b) own troops:
Units of 36th US Inf Reg and 5th US Cav Reg advanced to FULDA to replace own losses around FULDA and now reached line FLIEDEN - RUECKERS. Units are still taking positions and will expect a new Soviet attack along
highway 66 (A66) in SW direction. This is likely the main centre of actions. Right neighbour (3./PzGrenBtl52 GER) is defending eastern flank along line HUTTEN - HEILIGENBORN.
Civilians were already evacuated or fled out of this area due to the heavy battles.

2. Mission
2nd Sqd/ 5th Cav:
- Defense of the towns FLIEDEN and RUECKERS along A66

3. Execution
According to Btl orders, FLIEDEN and RUECKERS are to be held flexible under all circumstances. Enemy is to be eliminated and to be prevented from advancing towards SCHLUECHTERN in SW direction.

1. Lage
a) Feind:
Ein Angriff der 1. Sowj. Garde Panzer Armee nördlich FULDA konnte vorerst nur durch den Einsatz takt. Nuklearwaffen gestoppt werden. Im südlichen Fulda-Korridor tritt nun die 8. Garde Schützen Armee
an. Ziel des WP ist vermutlich der Vormarsch Richtung SCHLUECHTERN, um mit einem schnellen Stoss weiter Richtung FRANKFURT antreten zu können. Ein feindlicher Angriff vermutlich in mind. Regimentstärke
(17. Garde Pz-Reg.) wird in den nächsten 1-2 Stunden in unserem Bereich aus Richtung N - NO erwartet.

b) Eigene:
PzGrenBrig 5 steht als Teil der 5. Panzergrenadierdivision seit nunmehr 2 Tagen im Abwehrkampf um Fulda, wurde bis auf Höhe HUTTEN - HEILIGENBORN zurück gedrängt.
Teile/PzGrenBtl 52 haben in der Nacht mit moderaten Verlusten einen Angriff des Feindes auf HEUBACH zum Stehen gebracht, sind ausgewichen und haben in den Raum HUTTEN - HEILIGENBORN verlegt. 3. Kp hat Stellungen
eingenommen und richtet sich nun, auf weiteren Angriff des Feindes in Richtung HUTTEN ein. Linker Nachbar (Teile 5th US Cav Reg + 36th US Inf Reg) im Schwerpunkt verteidigt/verzögert entlang der A66 FLIEDEN - RUECKERS.
Zivilbevölkerung ist aufgrund der schweren Kämpfe bereits vor Tagen in Richtung S-SW geflohen/evakuiert worden.

c) Truppeneinteilung:
3./52(+) verstärkt durch II. Zug 2./PzBtl143, vermindert um IV. Zug

- Verteidigung der Ortschaften HUTTEN und HEILIGENBORN

3. Durchführung
Gemäß Bataillonsbefehl ist es meine Absicht, die Ortschaften HUTTEN und HEILIGENBORN flexibel mit allen zur Verfügung stehenden Mitteln zu verteidigen, dem Feind hohe Verluste beizubringen und ihn davon abzuhalten,
in unserem Einsatzraum weiter vorzustossen.
Massnahmen zur ABC-Abwehr:
Bereitschaft zur ABC-Abwehr, A-Warnung, A-Warnung vor Fallout

4. Einsatzunterstützung
- Artillerie/Luftunterstützung:
4x4 Rohre M109 PzArt (Anforderung NUR über US FO in Absprache mit HQ 2nd Squ.!)
- Versorgungsmaßnahmen sind abgeschlossen, BtrSt derzeit 80%
- Verwundetentransport und -versorgung auf Antrag. Verwundetennester in eigener Verantwortung.
- Abschub von Schadgerät auf Antrag.

ALPHA plt had first contact with enemy RECCE and a weak assault by BTR company

DELTA is overwatching area between BUCHHELLER and VEITSTEINBACH

Before the major enemy´s attack from two directions, the helicopters appeared again. Unfortunately for my IFVs, they had massive losses.

Due to the heavy losses there were huge spacings between my units and the enemy tried to use them for their assault on HUTTEN

The last remaining 2 IFVs from 3. Kp. (ALPHA2 + CO)... one Leo of DELTA was left and secured the left flank
